Guardrails and blocked topics
Updated June 25, 2026
Navi has no "forbidden topics" checklist. You steer it another way, and it's more powerful: with instructions in plain language. What you write, Navi follows.
It all happens in Settings → Instructions.
General instructions
The General instructions field applies to every agent (sales, orders, support). This is where your house rules and limits live:
Never promise a specific delivery date. Don't invent availability: if a product isn't in the catalog, say so. For any medical question, redirect to our support team.
Per-agent instructions
Below it, three fields steer each agent separately:
- Sales & advice — how to recommend (e.g. "favor our bundles over single products").
- Order tracking — what to say about orders (e.g. "never give an arrival estimate, only the tracking link").
- Customer support — how to handle after-sales (e.g. "offer an exchange before a refund").
General instructions are capped at 500 characters, per-agent ones at 300. One rule per sentence, in the imperative: the sharper they are, the better Navi applies them.
Good practice
- Say what Navi should do as much as what to avoid.
- Test after each change: ask Navi a question that touches the rule, check its answer.
- A safety rule (health, legal, sensitive data)? Put it in General instructions, not in a single agent.
